I’m going to show you how to use SMS marketing inside Trembi — from adding your contacts and organizing them into lists, to sending individual messages, running bulk SMS campaigns, managing conversations, and tracking the results.
For those who are new to Trembi, Trembi is an end-to-end sales and marketing platform. We help businesses find leads, engage those leads, follow up with them, and ultimately turn them into customers.
SMS is one of the communication channels available within that process, and in this video, I’m going to show you the different ways you can use it.
Step 1: Add Your Contacts
Before you can start sending SMS messages, the first thing you need is an audience.
On the left-hand menu, you’ll see the Contacts section.
Think of contacts simply as the people you want to communicate with.
You can add contacts manually, one at a time, by entering information such as their name, phone number, email address, country, and any other relevant details you have about them.
If you already have a large database of contacts, you don’t need to add them individually. You can simply import your existing list into Trembi.
One important thing to remember when importing phone numbers is to use the international phone number format, including the country code.
This is important because Trembi allows you to send SMS messages across different countries. So whether your customers are in Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, or elsewhere, the correct country code helps ensure that your messages are routed correctly.
Once your contacts are inside Trembi, the next thing you may want to do is organize them.
Step 2: Create Lists and Segments
Under the Contacts section, you’ll also find Lists.
Think of lists as different segments of your audience.
For example, you could have a list called Kenyan Customers, another for Ugandan Customers, another for New Leads, and another for Existing Customers.
This allows you to send different messages to different groups instead of sending the same communication to everyone.
To create one, simply click Create New List, give your list a name, and select a static list if you want to manually determine which contacts belong to that particular group.
Once the list has been created, you can start adding contacts to it.
You can also go back to your main Contacts section, select one or multiple contacts, and add those people to a particular list.
Once your contacts and lists are ready, you can start sending SMS messages.
There are four main areas I want to show you.
Option 1: Send an SMS to One Person
The first option is sending an individual SMS.
This is useful when you want to communicate directly with one particular customer or lead.
For example, maybe you want to wish a customer a happy birthday, follow up after a meeting, remind someone about an appointment, or simply send a personalized message.
Go to Contacts, select the person you want to communicate with, and click SMS.
From here, type your message.
You can then choose whether you want to send the SMS immediately or schedule it for a specific date and time.
Once you send it, Trembi delivers the message directly to that person's phone number.
So that's the first scenario: one contact, one message.
Option 2: Send a Bulk SMS Campaign
The second scenario is when you want to send the same message to a larger group of people.
For example, maybe you have customers in Nigeria and you want to send them an Independence Day message.
Maybe you have a promotion that you want to announce to 5,000 customers.
Or perhaps you want to send an important update to everyone in a particular customer segment.
Instead of messaging everyone individually, you can use Broadcasts.
Go to the left-hand menu and select Broadcasts.
Click New Broadcast and choose SMS as your communication channel.
The first thing you'll do is give your campaign a name. For this example, let's call it Test Kenya Campaign.
Next, choose the list of contacts you want to send the campaign to.
You can select one list or multiple lists depending on the audience you're trying to reach.
After selecting your audience, the next step is creating your SMS.
You can create a template, give that template a name, and then enter the actual message you want your customers to receive.
Once that's done, click Next.
Now you can decide when the campaign should go out.
You can send it immediately or schedule it for a specific date and time.
You also have the option to create recurring communication where necessary. So if there's a message you want to send repeatedly, you can configure that as well.
Once everything looks correct, simply launch the campaign.
Trembi will then send the SMS campaign to the audience you've selected.
So remember the difference:
If you're communicating with one specific person, you can send the SMS directly from Contacts.
If you're communicating with a group of people, use Broadcasts.
Tracking Your SMS Campaigns
Sending the message is only half of the job.
You also need to understand what happened afterward.
Businesses don't send marketing messages simply for the sake of sending messages. Usually, you're trying to achieve an outcome.
Maybe you want people to visit your website.
Maybe you want them to respond.
Maybe you're promoting a product.
Maybe you want to generate appointments, leads, or actual sales.
That's why Trembi captures campaign information and gives you statistics that help you understand the performance of your communication.
Instead of simply knowing that you sent an SMS campaign, you can start connecting your marketing activity to what happened afterward.
And that brings us to the next section.
Option 3: Manage SMS Conversations From Your Inbox
The third area you need to know about is the Inbox.
Trembi gives you a centralized inbox where your customer conversations can come together.
This includes communication across channels such as SMS, WhatsApp, email, and live chat.
Instead of jumping between multiple platforms to manage conversations, you can manage your communication from one place.
For example, if someone responds to an SMS you've sent, you can see that conversation inside your Trembi inbox and respond to the customer from there.
This becomes particularly useful when you have a sales or customer service team managing large numbers of conversations.
Option 4: Measure Results With Analytics
The fourth area — and one of the most important — is Analytics.
Again, you're not sending SMS messages just to send messages.
You're trying to generate a business result.
Trembi's end-to-end analytics are designed to help you understand the complete journey.
You can start with questions such as:
How many leads or contacts have entered the system?
Where did those leads come from?
Which campaigns did they interact with?
What did they click?
What happened after they received your communication?
Did they book a meeting?
Did they visit your store or website?
Did they eventually become a customer?
And most importantly: did the marketing activity contribute to revenue?
This is important because our goal with Trembi is to give businesses one end-to-end platform where they can market their businesses, manage their leads, follow up consistently, and ultimately drive real sales.
SMS is just one part of that ecosystem.
How to Buy SMS Credits
Before we finish, there's one more important thing you need to know.
To send SMS messages through Trembi, you need to have sufficient SMS credits available in your account.
Depending on the Trembi package you're using, your subscription may already include a certain number of SMS, email, WhatsApp, or other communication credits.
But if you only need SMS, or you need additional credits, you can purchase them separately.
Go to the Credits section.
Here you'll see the different types of credits available within Trembi.
Look for Text Messages or SMS Credits.
You can then select one of the available amounts or enter the amount you want to purchase and click Buy.
You'll then be taken through the payment process.
We're also continuing to expand our local payment options so that businesses in different African markets can pay using payment methods that are familiar to them.
Depending on availability in your market, this can include local payment methods across countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa.
Once your payment is successfully completed, the credits will be added to your Trembi account and you can start using them to send SMS messages.
